Loft Beds for Teens
A loft bed may be the perfect piece of furniture for college bound teens. When my youngest daughter was 14 it was the only thing she wanted for her birthday, Christmas, and/or any other gift.
She still had that bed into early 20’s. It was almost comical when she finally moved out and got her own place. There was a coffee cup that had gotten wedged between the bed and the wall.
And not only was there an imprint of that cup in the drywall, the cup itself was there too. We snickered a bit but the home owner didn’t. I don’t blame him. I don’t know how to fix drywall and he had to do the deed.
The loft bed that we purchased for our teen daughter is still available today.
It has a twin mattress on the top and a futon on the bottom that folds up to make a daybed or couch. She was one of those neat and tidy teens and made her bedroom cozy in the event that her friends came over and a loft bed was perfect for our teen.
This option of the triple bunk makes room for the whole family out of a smaller room. Two twin mattresses and a full mattress sleeps a small tribe.
The value of a loft bed for a college bound teen is very good.
Both my nephew and daughter had their lofts for many years, and in fact, my sister-in-law still has my nephew’s in his old room for family that comes into town. She also wants a place for her son and daughter-in-law to go when they need a little hide-away. They currently share a home with her mother.
The loft bed that she bought for her teen was configured as a loft with an area for a desk tucked in under the upper deck. There is room for a double bed under there which also stretches the space, even more. It would be perfect for a trip to the grandparents for a small family.
Construction of the teen bed is very important.
When selecting the best loft bed for your space, cost, ceiling height, style, and many other factors should be taken into consideration.
Think about how and who will be using the bed. As well as any movement, how often there will be climbing in and out of the upper loft. Materials of construction can affect how long the bed will last.
Amazon has a nice selection of bunks and loft beds for your teen. Take a look at the variety of beds and prices.
I noticed that both of the loft beds by Dorel offer free shipping to Amazon Prime members. The DHP Loft is a Prime purchase as well. I am an Amazon Affiliate, but would recommend Amazon because of their great customer service, delivery service and return policy.
Pottery Barn has quite a few teen loft beds available. The prices range from around $1000 all the way to $5000. The Sleep & Study’ low loft bed is beautiful. And it comes in 5 colors $3,399.
Ikea has a few as well. The prices are a bit more affordable at Ikea than Pottery Barn but I think you might sacrifice some of the quality with the price. I am not an affiliate for Pottery Barn or Ikea. Ikea’s SMASTAD loft bed is just a twin loft but look at the perfect layout. $480.00
How to Pick the Right Loft Bed, by Jack Mitcham Mattressnerd.com
“A loft bed features a raised bed frame elevated by posts and offers under-bed clearance that can be useful for a variety of ages. For example, children can use the under-bed space as a play-space.
Teens may find loft beds with desks most functional, as they can sleep up top and do their homework, hobbies, and lounging underneath. Adults who live in small apartments or studios will love loft beds as they provide added square footage for a bike, a lounge area with a sofa and a TV, or a desk.
Regardless of your age, lifestyle, style preferences, or personal needs, loft beds are offered in such a vast variety of sizes, styles, and price points that we’re sure there’s something out there you’ll love.”
Teens going off to college might love the addition of a loft bed to their dorm room.
Dorm rooms are tight spaces and don’t lend to having much storage space for clothing, school supplies, or other belongings. A loft bed allows the student to have more room for their belongings. The right storage and shelving will optimize the space available.

Some of the lofts above are designed with your student in mind. I love the loft with the built-in couch design and media stand. If you break down the pieces of furniture into separate pieces, in my opinion some of the the prices are valid.
I have one new loft for you to consider and one more that I have mentioned above, (my favorite). They look like the best of all worlds. I would be happy to answer any questions that you might have, leave a comment below and don’t forget your free printable download. Smiles.
