7 Fun Gifts for Empty Nesters

Choosing gifts for empty nesters can be fun.

Since empty nesters are just like anyone else, you may think that they may have every thing under the sun. Buying a GIFT CARD may be more than appropriate for many people. However, choosing a gift takes more thought and research, and choosing gifts for the empty nesters can be fun.

Think about what you would like to have, that you may never buy for yourself. Do you have a secret wish-list?  It would be handy if everyone had a “registry” at Amazon; but we know that is not the case.

Empty nesters DO have a set of circumstances that is slightly unique.  The definition for Empty Nester is a person, or set of persons, who have had one, or at least their last child move out of their home to either school, marriage, travel, or a new profession.  I’m sure there are other reasons why they may move out. But it couldn’t possibly be that their parents keep peeking around the corner and saying, “Are you still here???” Could it?

What makes gift planning for an Empty Nester different?  

1. The gift does not have to be child proof.
2. It will not be used by “the children”.
3. It can be customized for the couple/individual in mind.
4. A gift for an Empty Nester does not have to be tangible.

Let’s look at some gifts that are not child proof.  The first gift that comes to mind that is nice, needed, and not child proof is a

1. NEW SET OF KITCHEN KNIVES.  John and I had a set of knives for a minimum of 10 years and recently my brother and sister in law bought us a new set for Christmas 2021. It was so nice. We use them almost every day in our lake house and they sure make it nicer to have sharp knives. 

Along the lines of not child proof is:

2. A NICE SET OF GLASSWARE. If the couple entertain often, a service for 8 is probably best. These can be stemless wine glasses, crystal drinking glasses , pilsners or a nice full set of everyday glasses (that match lol). These highball glasses are beautiful and functional.

Since an empty nest is void of “the children”, my next suggested gift is a

3.NEW GAS GRILL for outdoor cooking, or a

4.NICE SET OF COOKWARE for indoor cooking would be a nice gift as well.

5. A GRILLING SET that is functional in the kitchen as well as out on the patio. There is a digital meat thermometer as well as a flavor injector. Who knew?

So many ideas come to mind in regards to personalized gifts.  Would the couple like a

6.COFFEE TABLE BOOK with pictures of their family over the years?  The fun part will be enlisting the children, friends, and maybe even their parents in collecting memorable moments.  It might surprise you how many pictures people share on Facebook and Instagram. <— great source.

7.A NIGHT OUT fit just this bill. The only way I could figure out how to make this happen is with a prepaid credit card.

Would you enjoy a gift of a SPA NIGHT with the one you love, or DINNER at a cozy restaurant?  If you would like to share in the fun, how about a DINNER CRUIZE if they are available in your part of the hemisphere?

Combine any of the above with a NIGHT OR TWO AT A BEAUTIFUL HOTEL, better yet, a BED AND BREAKFAST and you have an unbelievable gift.

I realize that I got a bit carried away with dream building the perfect gift.  Although I didn’t go as hog wild as to say, A WEEK LONG CRUIZE TO THE WESTERN CARRIBIAN ISLANDS did I?
